With the end of the year coming up, I thought I'd share some of my favorite travels from this past year. I thought I would start with one of the most calming and deeply local trips I took in Europe - Bordeaux, France!

If you are looking for a fun relaxing and at times exotic wine country tour then go to Bordeaux and St. Emilion, France. I landed in the Bordeaux airport, quite a small airport I might add, hopped in a taxi, and made my way into the city for the long anticipated reunion with my mother and a woman who is like my second mother, Mrs. J. Once there, I wandered through the narrow French streets towards an art museum my mother was exploring. We wandered the city and eventually went back to the hotel to meet Mrs. J. Dinner that first night was delicous but quick as everyone was exhausted from the day of traveling (especially my mother who flew six hours to meet us)!
The next morning we hopped in a rented red Kia and drove north-east up the D2 in search of beautiful views and open vineyards. With the windows down and the music playing we stopped by a handful of vineyards before stopping at a small local restaurant for lunch. After lunch we drove back down the D2 and over to St. Emilion where we would be staying at the Chateau Grand Barrail. The next day and a half was spent touring vineyards in St. Emilion and snaping pictures of the gorgeous chateaux in the area.
On our last day, we enjoyed the pool, set out to find one more vineyard and headed to the airport. I guess you could say I developed a taste for good wine while in France! While I did not get to bike through the vineyards I got to do so much more! Au revoir!!!
Some vineyards to check out while planning your next vacation to southern France: Chateau Duzac Chateau Lascombes Chateau de Ferrand Chateau Huat Veyrac Chateau Jean Faure Chateau Mouton Rothschild
