Today was Sea Olympics! What is that? Well, it is essentially field day on the ship. The whole shipboard community, including the staculty (staff and faculty), students, Lifelong Learners, and all the children, split up into 7 seas - Adriatic, Arabian, Baltic, Bering, Yellow, Red, and Luna. The whole day is filled with competitors like tug of war and pull up challenge. The three biggest competitions are trivia, synchronized swim, and lip sync. Sea Olympics is a huge tradition on SAS which all voyagers look forward to from the moment they step on the ship.
The Olympics are a way to bring the community together and give everyone a break from studies and adventure. It allows you to meet new people and bond with people you already know while promoting some *friendly* competition. Kelly got so into it that she didn't talk to us all day and was totally Blue sea all the way - it was pretty funny.
If you couldn’t tell by the title or the hundreds of photos in my gallery and below, I was in the RED SEA! The festivities started at 1030 after our second lifeboat drill of the semester with the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony is when each sea shows off their banner and chant. We also had a rock, paper, scissors challenge during the opening ceremony. Members of each sea competed against each other to find the top two players in their sea; then, the best players from each sea went up to the stage to compete in an all out competition! If you lose it is byebye.

Jackie, Hannah, Chantal, Isabella, and I participated in lip sync. After a week of sporadic but hard training - we only trained when we were on the ship - we went on stage and KILLED IT! We learned a 5-minute song combo to songs like Fergalicious and Don't Stop Me Now which had us jumping and moving the whole time. Our outfits included black bottoms, red shirts, double french braids, and face paint. It was amazing; I’ll try to upload a video here below! All our hard work paid off because we WON LIP SYNC!!!
Overall the day was great. While we did not win the whole Olympics (Arabian sea, otherwise known as Orange won) my sea-mates, friends, and I were constantly laughing, cheering, and having a blast. RED SEA FOREVER!
